Interesting facts about tango
The coup in 1955 that ousted General Perón had profound consequences for Argentina as a whole, and for the Tango in particular. Although the military junta did not ban the Tango itself, some of their repressive measures took their toll on the dance. Curfews made things difficult for a night-time activity like Tango. Bans on meetings of more than three people made at times social dances illegal. Laws, banning the presence of minors in nightclubs rigidly enforced for Tango clubs, prevented young people from dancing Tango. In the years of the military regime practically no one learned how to dance the Tango. However, the Tango did not disappear - it was still possible to go out dancing, and many people did, but the Tango was pushed underground. (Source: www.history-of-tango.com)
